57 minor young ladies are found positive for the novel coronavirus at a state-run children shelter home in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Among the 57 girls, five of them are pregnant and one is HIV positive.
Since the data was confirmed, the authorities said the pregnancies started before the lockdown. This shelter home has been sealed, and their staff is sent to quarantine.
On Sunday while addressing the media, Kanpur District Magistrate Brahma Deo Ram Tiwari said there were seven pregnant young ladies living in the home, and five of them were tested positive for Covid-19.
He said these young ladies were pregnant when they were brought to the shelter house on the suggestion of child welfare committees, and examination under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act is going on in every one of these cases.
